    Default Spent Grain Dog Bones

Found this recipe online somewhere and tweaked it slightly - I think it might have been on that green brew board.

    2 cups spent grains
    2 cups unbleached flour
    1 cup peanut butter
    2 eggs

Baked at 350 for 1/2 an hour
Cut into manageable pieces and let it sit at 210 (in the oven) for 5 hours or until dry.

I started brewing at 10 on Saturday and after the first batch was boiling I mixed this up and started cooking. By the end of the second batch the dog bones were pretty much done and cooling off.

I've been looking for some ways to save money, and those dog treats can get so expensive. So I thought instead of composting all of my grains why not take two cups and mix it with ingredients I already have sitting around.

The dogs really seem to like them, but then again they also like eating their poop, so I don't know if they actually taste good or not. Either way it's some nice cheap natural dog treats.

Thats a great idea. So after you cut them you put them back in at 210 when you say"sit at 210"?

just make sure that you dont mix your spent hops with the spent grains...hops can be fatal to dogs.

yup, no hops in there! just grains

Niko - yes, after I cut the treats into bars I put them back on the cookie sheet and put them in the oven (set to 210) until they were all dried out.

Funny, I actually did just about the same thing. Except I used 4 cups of grains and 4 cups of PB and 1 egg. Once the wort was in the kettle I started this little project. Little guys LOVE them.

My two dogs each grabbed one and ran to separate sides of the house to eat the treat alone so the other dog wouldn't take it. They seemed happy.

Did the same recipe as kiltedbrewer a week ago but added peanuts and a lil olive oil. Reese (my dog) really loves them.

So what would MODOK do if his memory got too full?
He'd find a powersource and then he'd pick what plugs to pull.
