    Default A couple Fall brews

Kicked off work a couple hours early and had a chance to swing by the bottle shop...couple of fall brews and CascaZilla.

    Ithaca CascaZilla:
    http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/ithaca-cascazilla/37289/
    Commercial Description:
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven't done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer's new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

    Weyerbacher Autumn Fest
    http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/weyerba...umn-fest/2321/
    Commercial Description:
Autumn Fest is Weyerbacher's own unique twist on the Oktoberfest style. Copper-amber in color, Autumn Fest is made with Vienna and Munich malts for that authentic, Bavarian easy drinking taste. Each sip imparts a wonderful roastiness of malt on the tongue followed by a smooth, consistent finish. Complex yet wonderfully balanced, and with a clean, velvety, slightly fruity taste, Autumn Fest is the perfect beer for the Fall- a nice transition between the lighter beers of summer and the darker, heavier winter brews. It's a favorite of many Weyerbacher aficionados, who anticipate the end of summer with this wonderful beer. Weyerbacher Autumn Fest (OG 1.062, ABV 6.1%) is generally available in stores September through December.

    Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale
    http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/weyerba...kin-ale/51099/
    Commercial Description:
Brewed with Pumpkin and Spices(Cinnamon,Nutmeg,Cardamom,Cloves). This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is heartier, spicier, and more caramelly and pumpkiny than its faint brethren! Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night, or match it up with a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream. If you don't agree this is the mother of all pumpkin ales, then you just don't like mothers!

Just to say right off, I'm a big fan of the cascazilla... the really show some love for the cascade flavor and aroma there... I like the solid malty background complementing as well.

    Weyerbacher AutumnFest

*Ratebeer classifies this as an Octoberfest/Marzen while BA has it as an American Amber.

Appearance: Pours a nice clear copper with a quickly dissipating foam.
Aroma: Slightly spicy and fruity with elements of sweet malt and some faint solvent notes.
Flavor: Malty....light roasted/toasted malt, tart apples & light floral flavors. Finishes with a dry & herbal.
Palate: Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: My first impression of this beer was that it tastes like an ESB brewed with some munich. It's one of those beers that doesn't really stand out in any way but doesn't really fail in any way (unless you are scoring it as an ofest, where it really falls short). Firmly malty with a plenty of apple esters and floral/herbal elements. Kinda has a vibe that reminds me of some of my later extract brews that had a bit of kettle caramelization.

Run and Hide the Pumkin beers are back!!! Ahhhh!

Sorry, had to, just not a fan of pumkin beers. The Autumnfest sounds like adecent beer to try though, I would like to get my hands on some of the Cascazilla though, I am liking the hoppy reds that have been hitting the market.

Ever have the Southampton or Weyerbacher versions? Those two are the only ones I really like.

I've only had DogFish Head's, and to be honest, I tasted no spice or pumpkin or anything in any of those beers. Tasted like a 7% amber ale, from what I remember.

Wish I could get Weyerbacher here.

Nope, can't get them around here, at least i have never seen them. Just never had one that i really enjoyed. I think it is the whole pumkin thing, I like it in pies but that is about it.

I've always been a fan of pumpkin ales... not sure why, but I find them very satisfying in the winter. Gonna probably do a pumpkin stout or porter this winter.
