We don't have much that I care for around here, but me a bunch of my buddies were doing the whole "Godfather" thing last week...a good friend of mine owns a great local bar/restaurant, so we all got the special table in the back for the night while we drank wine and whiskey and Armangac that was 6 years older than me, and at one point, he brought over the Rick Olivarez Trio to play for us.

I love Django and Gypsy Jazz, and these guys do a great job in that genre.

Looks like a myspace page...which, coincidentally, was the other top google hit for Olivarez.

Live local music around here is geared toward the 70's and 80's music. Most bands are pretty awful: poorly set up, over playing (I saw a guy take a sweet Gibson and stomp on it during a show), and just too loud for the small-ish venue.

The Red Ball Jets are kind of the exception. They have a pretty good following and play decent covers of the 70's/80's.

They're growing in popularity. This year they're playing at the Beer Barrel Saloon, which is a pretty big deal.

The lead guitarist plays unplugged at a local bar. It's a really small, but fun venue. Mrs. Jass and I have gone a few times and always enjoyed ourselves.

My town is crawling out the ass with incredibly talented cover bands like that. makes it really hard for original musicians to get decent paying gigs. In fact, no original bands and cover bands play in the same venues here. I have a buddy in a cover band called the Boneshakers though and they are fucking so talented, he's the best drummer I've seen play live (next to my band's drummer
