Default Pale Ale Recipe That's not too hoppy?

Looking for a good pale ale recipe for my Dad. His idea of too hoppy is Carslberg Elephant Lager to give you an idea. Sierra Nevada Pale would also be too hoppy...but, he likes Becks, Chechvar, and St. Pauli Girl. Yes, I know most of these are lagers, but I can't get him to try many pale ales for reference as they are always "too bitter" for him.

You don't want a pale ale then. You want a blonde ale.

I've only had a few blonde ales, but they were hoppy as fuck. Wait, they were summer blondes...guess that might have been it??

Dude, you are brewing it, make it low hop to let Dad enjoy a homebrew.

    Make a Blond ale.

    50% 2 row

    25% Vienna

    25% Pils

Bitter with Magnum or similar to 20 IBU or so and use Saaz or Hallertau at 30 and 5.

Thats one easy drinking brew right there.

It will "look" like Becks color wise and be low hopped so it will be very approachable.

    Cheers,

Hell yeah! That sounds just about perfect...

Thanks guys! I have this tendency to overcomplicate things, and I needed some simple direction.

I would go 15-17 ibu. My wife comments on bitterness with my water profile starting around 25 ibu.

IBU's and perceived bitterness really depend on the hops being used. My "summer" beer has 30 ibu's and no noticeable hop bite, the Budweiser fans love it. Now if it was chinook hops, that's a whole different story.

Agreed, water profile is one to take into account also. I usually bitter with magnum or galena.
