Default Need a New Stir Plate

Went to fire up my stirplate for my starter on Tuesday and the fucking POS just doesn't turn on. No idea why, and I don't know how to figure it out. So I guess I'm just gonna buy a new one. I've heard good things about Stirstarters.com, so that's where I'm probably going to go, but I was wondering if anyone has a better suggestion before I click the "purchase" button.

I think that's where I got mine. Works great but I'm not sure if it will with that monster flask you have.

the one I had before was like 5x5. This is 4x6. Hmmm...I'd like to think it could still sit on there.

I'm building my own: DIY Stir Plate

I have everything except the fan, potentiometer and magnetic stir bar. I had a fan I cannibalized from a crap computer, but found out the fan itself was dead.

Hm, that BYO article makes it sound pretty eezee. Shit, maybe my power supply is just shot. Maybe I'll try just replacing that.

Heh, so I looked all around my house for a power adapter plug that fit the stir plate so I could test it out....finally found one, the WD MyBook external HD power cord actually fit, and my suspicions were correct: it was just a bad power supply. So I went to Radio Shack and got a new one for $21, and the stirplate is back to normal.

give a long hard thought bubble to getting a cheap aquarium pump.
Lots of guys think they are better than stir plates.
