Got my first flanders red.

so i picked up "dutchess de bourgogne"

my first time ever haveing a flanders style beer. I'm pumped i cant wait to taste it but its gota chill down first. I really wanted to try the style before i attempt the 999 so hopefully i'll dig it.

I also got a local brew by jolly pumpkin artisan ales

after reading the description i couldnt pass it up...

do u think is belgian the new trendy american beer tho?... I keep seeing more and more of them, and it makes sense since they arent always hoppy... i think that these types of beers are guna be big while the shortage is killing us.

Oh Em Gee.

So i just poped her open, there is just something savory about uncorking a beer.

the first thing that i noticed before i even finished pouring was a destinctly wine like and slightly herbal aroma.

a deep ruby hue

a nice off white head that stuck around for a few, and more lacing then i have witnessed to date.

Tastes very lambic like... but less tart and no destinct fruit flavor. I would say it has a sour cherry flavor...but not nearly as sour as i expected but its quite crisp and refreshing even tho it has some body. I catch a slight skunk but thats probably due to poor storage... it had a little but of dust on it at the store.

this is probably one of the nicest beers I have had to date. I cant wait to try and brew this...tho it seems quite intimidateing... well worth 9 bucks.

The dutchess was much less sour than I was expecting. Real good beer, but not amazing for the style.

I really think dutchess has some issues with quality control. Ever time I have had it, its different. The first bottle I had was really really sour, the smell of it was almost hard to get over, but tasted great. The others I have had, had different levels of sourness and acidity. But non near as extreme as the first.

If you have not tried it yet, go get Rodenbach Gran Cru. Amazing flanders!

I know what you're talking about...At first I figured that bottle handling/storage was suspect but then noticing the variability of the bottles, I think the brewery is likely the issue. With Rodenbach, Jolly Pumpkin and the occasional RR pop'n up on the same shelf, it's hard to grab the dutchess anymore.

Well if that is not the best beer I can't wait to try a better one. Best part was getting the old lady to try it. She makes some of the funniest faces.
