I was going to say a flat top, but that's cool too.
A guy I work with said that New Belgium adds Liquorice Root Extract to 1554 (apparently he knows a guy who brews there). Might just give that subtle extra flavor that you're looking for.
Hey, I used to live in South Dakota! The state with no Home Brew Stores.... Thankfully there are good online ones.
You'll love all grain brewing, by the way.
You will be very happy with the end product. Flan's Stout is my whole reason for ordering EKG by the pound.
When I make it, I single temp infusion mash at 152F, then sparge with 170F water. I personally never mash out my beers because my mash tun is too small to handle an extra pre-drain liquid addition.
Carafoam is pretty much the same, just a different brand.
I might have to jump on this bandwagon.
Not to get off topic, but is there shipping pretty reasonable?
Ed is cool and will fix any issue ASAP. Just e-mail or call.
Right now, code BBBYO should get you 10% off any brew builder recipe.
Try my Late Night at an IHOP Brown Ale:...
Do they allow "practice" chucks? I have a pair around here somewhere of the foam and string kind...admittedly not as cool as the stick and chain version though.... Dunno if you could get your hands...
Went to my brew club meting yesterday. Theme was belgians. Had some Ommegang brews and was actually able to talk about them intelligently with the brew club. I also passed around the word about...

Tried putting some green food coloring in my beer, but I don't know if it worked since it was nearly black to begin with.
Because I want to do all grain (mostly to save money) and I happen to have a 5 gallon pot and a 2 gallon cooler (which I converted to mash in).
I also have limited space where I am. I only have...

Finished this one just a bit ago, worked great, smelled AMAZING.
Yea, I've been lurking more than posting lately. Working on writing my master's thesis, so free time is in short supply.
If you're worried about when to put the sparge water on, do what I do,...
Just cracked open that Burton Brown ale. Mmmmmm, delicious. Puts Newcastle to shame, and boy do I love a good Newcastle. Should have pitched the sediment into a starter....oh well. Best brown ale...
Mashed in on a by-the-book O'flan Standard Stout. Hit temp dead on at 152*F.
Mashing now for an hour....What do you do with YOUR 60 minutes?
Now I've never done it, but based on my knowledge and experience, here's my advice...
I would start fermentation with a regular beer yeast. This will preserve the beer yeast flavor profile. When...
Barley Crusher all the way.
What was done before involved removing all of the connecting pieces from the coils in the shelves. Lots of tedious work with a dremmel..... After those are removed, then you can bend the coils out...
Brewed this up, in the fermenter, will be transferring and dry hopping very soon!
Left out the corriander and used what I had on hand for crystal (forget what...) but adjusted for final color.
The beer is an Irish Red Ale. I assumed the C-60 was Crystal 60L, but the A-20 stumped me....
