Default Kegerator lines through the freezer

I have seen pictures of over/under standard fridge/freezers that have the taps on the freezer door(there is a picture of one on the last page of the latest NB mailing.) I assume that you have to run your beer lines through the freezer for this to work. But how the hell do you keep the lines from freezing, and rendering your kegerator usless? I want to get my taps higer up than the fridge door without having the interference from opening the freezer. Some people do side mounts, which I am considering.
