Default Apartment kegerator

So I live in a small townhouse apartment and the wife gave me the unofficial goahead on a small kegerator for my Homebrew. Do they make a small one that is ideal for say two five gallon kegs. We will be moving in July so I really can't do a big fridge but I would love to have something just large enough for two small kegs.

The classic Sanyo 4912 fridge-conversion is perfect for holding two kegs. Easy to build, if you're even slightly handy.

I'm pretty handy and if I'm not handy enough I have a friend who builds cabinets that is. How much did the project cost?

I may have to get more details from you on building one, I think I found one on craigslist for $40.

Is your co2 in the fridge or outside?

Those Sanyos are good murl. I found one myself for $40 on craigslist. Damn good price. At first I'm going to use it as a lagerator, then I'll move up to make it a kegerator.

co2 is inside on mine - you can fit 2 kegs and a 5lb tank without removing the door panel. Make sure the one you're getting is the one without the freezer compartment, much easier build that way; the 491x series is the one you want.

It's been a while now, but I'm guessing I spent about $250 total...fridge, tower, rails, drip-tray, disconnects, etc. Maybe a bit less. I bought new Ventmatic faucets, but sold the original ones to offset the price. The key is finding a nice used 4912 (or 4911, 4910...all really the same thing) at a good price. If you're in a college town, they seem to pop up on Craigslist at the end of semesters.

My 5lb tank is inside the fridge...it all just barely fits, sometimes you have to bump things around a bit to get it aligned just right.

Default You can also make one from a mini-freezer

Here's mine:

And using a Ranco, you can get more precise temperature control

+1 on the Sanyo, I bought mine new (but swiped a 5 Lb. tank from a buddy) and probably spent about $350. I keep my bottle outside the fridge for convenience, it's easier to adjust the reg and swap out bottles. Our own Orpheus has an excellent write up on converting a Sanyo to a kegerator over at HBT.
