Before I received my Nesco roaster for xmas, I was planning to try my old Presto air-popper. (I've had it twenty years, it made HORRIBLE popcorn.) The extension cord idea is interesting...even better, I could have plugged it into my variac and dialed in the voltage I wanted. But now I'll never know, as the Presto is now property of Goodwill Industries.

This morning, I enjoyed some Sumatra Mandheling that I roasted last night.

Yeah, that's the same basic idea. Obviously, a variac would be better.

Anyway, I think I'm headed into the basement to roast a bit more coffee.

So to add to the arsenal of the Bialetti, I bought a French Press yesterday thanks to some Christmas giftcards.

I'm still working through some overroasted Arabica beans from TJ's, so I can't really comment. Will be picking up some different beans from Whole Foods or such sometime this week when I run out.

We got a demo model Nesco Roaster. The Sumatran Mejfaldjfajef(you know the one) was damn near burnt after 22 minutes. The Costa Rican Tarazzu was close to perfect at 20 minutes.

Granted, I usually like darker coffees, but the Tarazzu is the SHIT!!!!

What are your normal roasting times with the Nesco?

Jesus fucking christ, ladies. This was a "what's in your cup" thread...and it took you all of what, 5 posts before it turned into another homeroasting thread? FFS, might as well merge this one with me "Damn, That's Some Good Coffee" thread, another one where all I was trying to do was talk about how good the coffee I was drinking was, yet got turned into 20 pages of homeroasting chitty-chat. For shame!

Too much caffiene can sometimes make one a little edgy, nervous or irritable. Sometimes a beer or two will reduce the jitters. A stiff shot of house whiskey will also have a calming effect. Try to avoid kicking the dog or beating the wife. That is just so uncool these days.

I'll take the blame for the thread deviation on this on. I didn't figure Evan would mind since I know he detests the coffee I was drinking at the time (Starbucks Sumatra). I try to broaden my horizons by exploring the world of fresh home-roasted coffee and this is the kind of cynicism I have to deal with.

I've been going 22 - 25 minutes (the last 5 minutes being the cooling cycle) but so far everything I've roasted has been destined for the espresso machine. They come out very dark brown, but short of black. I'd call it a light French roast. They are not the slightest bit oily...the espresso beans I normally buy are always wet with oil.

A few of the bean varieties included in my sampler are said to be best for city or city+ roasts, so I'll probably bust out the French press when I'm ready to try those.

To appease the FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU (), I've started a coffee roasting thread.

How odd, I had the same thing this morning with my braised whale bacon. Only Central West Indian cardamom infused with salamander testes will suffice, of course.
