Default wanted 1/4" stainless tube

I need about 6-12" of 1/4" stainless tube for my inline oxygenator project. I was wondering if someone had some scrap or something they could send me. It would be greatly appreciated as I can't find a short piece anywhere in town.

I have miles of it, but it may be just as cheap to get it locally if you can. Got a local scrap dealer, or know anybody in industry (pulp, refining, power, food, etc). 1/4" ss is really common stuff.

Is brake line 1/4"? I thought it was 3/16", which may or may not be important here...

No 3/8".

But there are other options. I have used glass tubing in the past with metal ferrules. What you do in your case is change your compression fitting to 1/2", keep the 3/8 inch racking cane, and make a bushing out of a softer material where the ferrule compresses. The 'bushing' will need to be a snug fit over the cane, and can be of many different plastics available locally at hardware stores. Then you can crank down pretty good on thecompression nut without fear of breaking the cane and get a safe and secure fit. Or you can just buy the ferrules from swagelok.

Could you send me a 6 or 8" inches? I assume you have some scrap pieces if you work with the stuff regularly? I'll paypal you a couple of dollars to cover the shipping if that would work. I assume an envelope would be sufficient to send something like that?

Edit: I will check an auto parts store tomorrow and see what it runs there. Thanks for the info guys.

I'm just going to flair it and use it inline for my oxygen stone, so if you could get it to fit on a 1/4'' flair it should work. I have some compression fittings in both 1/4 and 3/16 so thats not a problem(ebay grab bag )

PM me your address and I'll see what the cost is - might be $6-$8 to cover shipping. What kind of flaring are you planning? SS can be tricky to use hydraulic flaring on (tends to crack at the lip). The brake line flaring tool is a different animal. I'd recommend compression if it makes no difference.

I managed to acquire some from another source. I need to flair it because that is the end my diffusion stone has on it. I will just bring it to the local hardware store, they have the tool, or my maintenance man at my company was an old hvac guy so he should have one I could borrow.

Thanks for all of the people who chimed in.
