Default Mine aren't that old

I can trace them back to the mid-80's. Have not been able to identify them, but they may have morphed over the years in this climate.

What makes them unique is that they produce a prolific crop of large heavy cones.... doubling what my Cascades produce.

Central Vermont was also a hops growing area in the 1800's.

Ah, so they are wild? You find them near your house?

Default Not Wild

Purchased by a friend via mail order in the 80's

A couple of friends got cuttings and a few years ago, they gave the cuttings to
me. The original planting is gone.

The original grower doesn't remember the variety and thinks the source may have been an ad in The Farmers Almanac or Mother Earth News.

The age helps in narrowing down the choices as there were fewer varieties back then.

Default Racked this brew to the secondary

and tasted a sample. Almost no hop smell.

Thought I might have picked up a citrus / grapefruit note,
but nowhere as strong as my homegrown Cascade.

Certainly not a noble hop. If anything its some American variety.

I might have a better idea when its cleared and carbed.

Default So this brew is on tap

and for a beer with 4 oz. of hops it's pretty low key.

Balanced with very little hop aroma. Got some expert opinions
on what it might be, but no firm conclusions.

Thought it might be Brewers Gold, but the leading suspects

are now Cluster or Northern Brewer

I would have suspected Cluster. Especially since there's not a whole lot of anything going on with 4 oz. The other two would at least have some bitterness.
