I want to try and brew some Belgians in the near future. Would like to hear any recommendations for yeast.
I'll use the same yeast pack over half a dozen brews; Blonde, Bruin, Pale Ale, Doubel, etc; Basic ales, no sours, and not looking to do a trippel. I can only handle one yeast at a time, as I will be running an English strain in parallel and alternating brews between them. I've never used a Belgium yeast before and want to find one that is versatile for many different beers. Currently thinking of either WPL530 (Abbey Ale) or WPL550 (Belgium Strong Ale Yeast). I do like the Leffe beers (Blonde, Bruin, double, 90, etc), if I got something close to them I would be pleased; anyone know what yeast Leffe use? |

I've used 500, 550 and 570 in multiple styles before all with good results.

Wlp530/Wy3787! Definitely my favorite Belgian strain by far.

WLP 550 hands down, ferment cool & its really clean. Ferment warm & its gets spicey
Something you might want to try if theres a source for Saxo or Nostradamus> Brasserie Caracole. The yeast in Saxo works great for blonds and the yeast in Nostradamus for darker beers. Both yeast are really clean at high temps with very little Fusel alcohols produced and easy to reculture from bottles. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/753 |
