Default 2010 Brewing Competitions?

Anyone entering some comps this year?

I have 3 so far that I am entering this year. The Wisconsin State Fair, Title Town Open, and maybe the NHC.

I promised myself to enter every beer I brew this year in at least one comp. I could use the feedback.

My goal is to enter at least one competition to get some feedback. Does anyone know a competition that would be good for a competition rookie to enter (that would also accept shipped entries)?

I entered the Bluffcity Brewer's in Memphis, and the Kansas City Biermeisters in KCMO

Getting some more brews ready for the next round.

Edit: Just checked on these comps. I took 1st place with my Irish Red Ale in the KCBM comp!! Out of 5 beers, this was the only one that placed. Oh well!

Nice Dave! I didn't get to enter this year. That is a tough competition. I know there are a couple of gold medal NHC winners that belong to that club and enter every year. Congrats.

I'm saving up for Nationals. All or nothing.

Karma, almost all comps accept shipped entries. Just check the dates they need them received by and plan accordingly (usually 10-14 days before the comp). In terms of rookies, there is no difference if you've made 1 or 101 batches, the judges will judge what you send. As long as the comp has good quality judges, then you will get good feedback, no matter how good or bad the beer is. Don't be afraid to enter! It's good for you. . . and for your beers (well, next time you make it anyway!). The AHA and BJCP sites keep up with all the competitions coming up, so that's a good place to see where there are some comps in your area.

In terms of comps for me this year, I hit the SE circuit pretty hard with 4-5 competitions in GA, 2 in SC and a couple in FL that I send to regularly. I do this mainly for quid pro quo reasons for our competition, but I also like to get feedback on each beer and usually send off each beer to 2 comps a couple months apart to see how the beer does at different ages. My current selection of beer and my schedule for the next few months will likely preclude me from entering anything into NHC this year.

I won't have anything new to send out to NHC this year, but I have some aged stuff that will be going.
