I normally hit right around 80%. I had a couple of batches that for some reason were down in the 60's, which of course were followed by almost 90% on my Sweet Imperial Stout.

I'm doing 10 gallons of Dunkelweizen this weekend, so we'll see how it ends up.

The grain mill made a BIG difference (Barley Crusher@ factory setting). I went from the 50's to the 80's. I also use 5.2 ph stabilizer in every batch. Too, I think efficiency is all about how accurate your measurements are. Once I got a refractometer I felt a lot more secure in my readings, and my data became a bit more consistent and concrete. So, I think that better measurement=better numbers (usually)=higher efficiency.

I can not wait to get a mill. I am getting tired of inconsistent crushes at my LHBS. I get to crush it myself, but it is always different from batch to batch.

Nothing new here. I went from 50's and 60's to 70's and 80's because of 5.2 and my Crankandstein. I don't know how to test for conversion otherwise I'd work on that as well.

I've never tested for conversion simply because I feel that an hour is plenty of time to get it done.

I stay above 65% constantly now. Usually in mid 70's, but sometimes I dip back down to 65. Seems to be only when I use wheat that I get low like that anymore though... maybe because the wheat is almost a year old. Dunno.

^^You 5.2 users can chime in here please!

Personally, I hit the mid to upper 70s on most batches (course, I am always tweaking stuff and processes to see what effect they have). My average would be 'round 77%.

Our efficiency has been varying lately and i blame my lame-ass mill. It's been the Achilles Heel of our operation since the git- go.It's a Porkert mill(cheap)that i had to customise to adapt to a drill. We've run 500 lbs of grain through it and it's a fuss keeping it adjusted.I'm working on convincing myself to buy a REAL mill.
