I'll be in Chicago from 9am Fri, aug 20 through Mon, aug 23 6pm. Wife and I are coming up for a wedding, staying at the double tree. Whoever's around lemme know, we can do lunch and beers or dinner and beers some day/night.

I might be there that weekend for my 30th birthday depending on if I have moved to Florida yet or not. So I'll keep an eye on this.

I'm a suburbanite, but would be happy to wander into the big city for a couple of beers

Putting house on market in a couple weeks. so anytime from then till it sells. My wife has to be there for school by Aug 18th, but if the house hasnt sold I'll still be here in Indiana, and that would mean I'll be going to Chicago.

Double Tree at Ohio & Michigan Ave.? Oh, you're right in the heart of tourist trap Chicago.:D I can meet up. I suggest getting the hell away from MichAve and heading to The Map Room (http://www.maproom.com/). Check out the beer list.

Oh, well then you're west of the city by ~30 mins. Pretty centrally located b/w city and burbs, actually. Lots of overpriced shopping and restaurants there and yet, the world HW of McDonalds. Best nearby bets would be Lunar Brewing (http://www.myspace.com/lunarbrewingco) in Villa Park, Emmett's (http://www.emmettsalehouse.com/) in Downers Grove or Brixies (http://www.brixies.com/) in Brookfield.

Damn man, that didn't tell me it was that far from the city. Its where all the guests are staying. I was hoping to get my drunk on hardcore and cab it back, but that's gonna be an expensive ass cab ride.

Yeah, it will be. Even at 2AM it will be at least a 20 min. ride. Cheaper to take the Metra (http://metrarail.com/) train at Hinsdale ($7.00 pass good all weekend long), but the ride will be longer.

This is great, I know I don't know all you guys that well but me and my brew buddy would be down to meet up and have a few. I'm in the suburbs as well, but only about an hour out, maybe I'll crash the wedding..........

I've been to wedding at that one ... My wife barfed in one of the ashtray things. It's not a bad one. That's not far from me.

Rhoobarb recommended this place, maybe a sunday lunch or dinner time meet up here? Anyone else down?

I can probably make it for lunch. Just an FYI, they serve no food at all! Strictly beer. You can order in (http://www.maproom.com/faq.htm#food) (pizza delivery, etc.) or there is a great Cuban place (http://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-laguardia-chicago) two doors down.

My wife is flying out Sunday but I'm sure not goin to suggest that she meet up with guys from the Internet ;)

What's a good bottle shop she can hit to bring back some good stuff?

Where is she going to be? If easy access over in the city, I give all props to Binny's South Loop (http://www.binnys.com/locations).

Basically, any Binny's is pretty awesome (to me, at least) and there are locations all over the city and in the 'burbs.

As for Flan, gonna miss you by a couple of days. Was supposed to be in town on Friday for our fantasy draft, but with crap happening in my family, I was in VA last week and can't take this much time off of work. Bummer.

Well, I my face is now beet red! I completely forgot when I posted last Saturday that we had plans to go to the State Fair down in Springfield this Sunday! My stepson is performing there that afternoon. Last night my wife sternly reminded me.:D Sorry to have to bail on you. I had really wanted to have a few pints at The Map Room.:(

What if we're straight?

What time are you thinking? I'm kinda booked on Saturday with a kids birthday but may have time in the evening or on Sunday. Have a friend coming into town who I haven't seen in years.

Probably late lunch, katie wants to do something fancy for dinner since I have a tux. Suggestions on that btw?

How much are you willing to blow?

You can always go to Alinea (http://www.alinea-restaurant.com/) where you'll throw down $185 per person for a 20 course tasting menu.

Charlie Trotter's (http://www.charlietrotters.com/restaurant/) is another really fancy restaurant that will only run you $165 per person.

Ó Flannagáin

Jesus h... I was thinking 60 or 70 per person

OF - if you're going all out, Gibsons. You can walk out of there around $60-$100 p/p, depending on how dainty you eat and how much wine or blue-cheese stuffed olive martini's you drink.

FYI - how to get a table in Chicago. Typically anywhere you go - whether you have reservations or not - will tell you it'll be a few and direct you to the bar. Yes, your table is available but they want you to order 2 drinks before you sit down. If your wife looks pregnant they'll typically give you a table faster since they know you won't be ordering 2 drinks for her.

Just tell them you're Abe Froman, Sausage King of Chicago. Easy. :shark:
