View Full Version : Eisbier kinda...

So while I was brewing a Cream Ale Sunday I got to thinking about brewing something similar to an Eisbier...but different.

Basically what I'd like to do is brew a full 5 gal batch of something fairly simple and then partially distill it via the "jack" method in the freezer.

Simultaneously I'd like to brew another batch of the same thing to be fermenting while the first batch undergoes the freezer treatment.

Once everything is done, combine in a keg, force carb and viola...fairly high gravity brew of something (not sure which style to try yet, but partial to an amber.)

Anyone done anything similar?

Would the second batch be less than 5 gallons?

Yeah, it would have to be wouldn't it? :)

I figure the second batch would make the difference of 5 gallons from whatever was left of the first.

Sounds like a solid plan to me, could even use the yeast cake from the first batch.

Never done anything like this, but I think it's a damn fine idea. I think combining the 2nd batch would smooth out any potential 'hotness' from the 1st one.

Exactly the thought process that led to the idea.
