Anyone convert a keg to a brewpot? I want to get a 1/2'' coupling welded on my keg; Any idea how much this is gonna cost?

I'm not sure what it would cost. I have a keggle, but I bought it pre built for $80 with a nipple to put in a ball valve. I suspect it'd be cheaper if you already had the keg though and just had to get some work done on it. Plenty of people have the setup to cut stainless.

I've also heard that a cheap angle grinder works, but takes a while.

I have found a few machinists that would plaz cut the top and weld a fitting into it for a case of homebrew, or 20.00

I guess $20 is pretty reasonable. I talked to the LHBS and they recommended a welder that was a homebrewer :)

If your guy won't, then don't underestimate weldless fittings. I use them on my HLT and keggle and have had no leaks or problems.

I have got a weldless fitting now, not overly impressed by it, but I would like to go stainless and I will need someone to weld my HLT for electric elements when I get there

I use "weldless fittings" that I pieced together. The only thing I might want to change are the rubber washers to silicon. Cutting the top took about 5 min with an angle grinder. And I drilled the hole for the ball valve with a step bit. Both came out well.
