As Evan! mentioned, got to swing by his place again on the way to my parents' place.

Like him, no BJCP style here, but comment regardless.

Sweet Baby Jesus American Pale Ale

He said this was a couple of months old, but I wouldn't have known if he had not said so. There was still a good bit of citrusy hop nose, combined with a smooth malty backbone. The taste was the same - excellent hop flavor (cascades?) but a most awesome malt backbone - I think you use Victory in this, and it hits well. Like I said, non BJCP, so I feel fine saying I could drink the ever living shit out of this, especially in weather like this.

American Barleywine

Evan has actually given me a bottle of this before, but (and was warned appropriately) wasn't carbed. It was good, but obv without the carbo, not great. This second bottle, however, gave a clean pfft, moderately carbonated, and a great 1-finger head coated my glass. Lots of molasses/fig stuff going on, but the hop bitterness still present to a high degree. Excellent. No alcohol bite, either.

888 Russian Imperial Stout

Low amount of carbonation, but a great roasty/bitter chocolate thing going on here. There's this ashy roasty/smoky thing going on in the aftertaste (for lack of a better description) that, as described, you'd think would be weird, but it was really nice because it wasn't over the top harsh or astingent. Again, no alcohol present, which I always prefer in big beers.

Thanks, Evan!

Sounds like some delicious brews! I still have a couple of Evan's I need to drink.

If I can squeeze some brewdays in around this hectic move and shit, I'm definitely going to try to brew his Sweet Baby Jesus. Fuck my attempt at trying to create an APA - he has it where I want it already.

Unpasteurized cider (with some sort of English yeast?)

Lots of things going on in the aroma here - the requisite apples, of course: sweet and tart, with that acetaldehyde presence that is desired here. There's also this lemon-lime thing going on in both the aroma and taste - like a Sprite, but again, nothing bad. Surprised at all the esters that come through on top of the apples, that I'm assuming is from the yeast. Sweet finish, but still quaffable.
