OG: 1.063
FG:
SRM: 7.8
IBU: 40.9
Fermentation Data: 68deg 7 days
Yeast: WLP001
Base Malt: American 2 Row

Thought this one up on the fly as i was setting up equipment. Just used what was on hand and not needed for other beers in the plans.

Malt:
18lb American 2 Row
5lb Maris Otter
1lb Biscuit
12oz 60l

Hops:
.25oz Northern Brewer FWT
1.5oz Northern Brewer 60min
.25oz Cascade 30min
.25oz Cascade 20min
.5oz Nugget 10min
.5oz Cascade 5min

Yeast:
White Labs Cali Ale WLP001

Mash:
Single Infusion at 155deg, 1.25qts:1gal Water to Grain Ratio

Well came in a little low on the gravity, came in at 1.060, but i did run off about 13 gallons so i was a tad high on my volume. I expect it will ferment out to a 1.010-1.012. I am keeping this one around to expand on because the wort tasted wonderful, i think that the pound of biscuit really set this one apart, but only time will tell.

Yeah i ended up dry hopping gone carboy with cascade and one with northern brewer. they both came out really well, the FG was 1.010. The flavors are nice, i think that the biscuit really added a nice dimension to it. To me it is really what an American pale should taste like. Subtle malt profile balanced with a moderate but not to over powering hob bitterness and flavor.

For the extract version just steep the aromatic and the 60L malts for 30-40 minutes in 150 deg water, then drain the bag, or strain. Begin to raise temp to a boil. Once a boil is reached start timer for 60 Minutes and add first hop addition. At 15 minutes add dry malt extract. Follow hop schedule same as the AG recipe.

How did the Northern Brewer hops work as the main bittering? I just scored a few ounces and was thinking of using them for aroma in an IPA in conjunction with some Amarillo and Simcoe. Are they more suited to bittering rather than flavor/aroma?

The only reason that I used them for the bittering is cause I had them on hand and they were getting old. But they worked out really well. This beer is very easy drinking and smooth. The bitterness in it is not harsh at all and the hop profile is more pronounced then the malts, but not super aggresive.

I do like a beer with NB as the aroma/flavor hops as well though. I dry hopped half of this batch with NB and it was great, compared to the other half that was done with Cascade, it was aroma wise a completly different beer.
