Got a couple of homebrews from Ryan, the first i opened not knowing whether it was a Trippel or a Soured Pale. And it is all Tripple, and really good at that.
Initial - Nice pop when i opened the bottle, Poured a cloudy (from shipping) amber with orange highlights, had a nice head that lasted about halfway through the beer and faded to a thin layer with lacing on the glass.
Aroma - Sweet malts and banana with a slight floral quality. There is that distinct spicy Belgian yeast character in the back bone of this one. No hops in the nose. There is a nice subtle oak aroma that hits you as it warms with the wine character coming through with the oak, aged on wine soaked oak IIRC. All this follows up with an alcohol note that lets you know that this beer packs a punch at 12+ ABV.
Flavor - Sweet up front, and all the character in the nose carries through into the flavor. There is a complex spiciness that is a combo of the hops and yeast, coupled with the alcohol bite. Very warm in my belly. Only half way through this one and feeling the warmth in my face from it.
Mouthfeel - Medium body that hides well behind the higher carbonation and Finishes very dry on the back of the tongue just as any good Belgian Tripel should.
Overall - Spot the F*ck On! Great beer dude, glad i got to try this one. Thanks.
