I am looking at building some hopstoppers at a brew club build day coming up soon. Pricing out the SS Wire Mesh through McMaster and am seeing wide swings in the prices depending on Wire Diameter and Mesh size.

So I am wondering if anyone out has built or bought a hop stopper? If you have or have any coments as to what mesh size and wire diameter is used on the hop stopper or you have used yourself please feel free to coment here.

I am looking at either the 17x17 wire mesh or the 20x20, but to make it economical I would need to go with the .009 wire diameter and I am not sure if that size wire will make them too flimsy or not.

So any personal or profesional opinions are welcome.

Couple of knights for DIYing and saving a crap ton of money!

I rigged oen up really quick with some window screen. I boiled the screen for 30 minutes in just water first to remove any sort of coating that may have been on it. Works great, a little hard to clean though. I'd like to upgrade though, so when you settle on something make sure to post pics.

Like 4 bucks for a roll of window screens

Have you had any issues with durability? has it broken or had to be replaced yet? How many brews have you done with it so far?

I use it everytime... it hasn't broken, per se, but I don't really put it together very well, I just bent the sides together and they don't hold well. I built it in like 5 minutes, works fine for me though with pellets and whole hops. I'd like to take a half hour and maybe wire it together instead of just bending.
