Have not tried to brew one of these bad boys yet but I think it is about time. This is pretty much strait out of BCS. I want to play with it a bit but don't know where to start.

Using plain cane sugar? It's the same as clear candi.

If you want an awesome beer, I really suggest using the Dark D2 Candi syrup, stuff is amazing.

yeah the Dark D2 Candi syrup is awesome stuff. if you are just going for alcohol then regular sugar is fine, but the D2 will give some nice flavors.

On my BDSA I used Pilsner malt and next time I will use pale malt, because mine did not have the body that I wanted. I also did not have near as high of a SG as this recipe.
