Know your regulator check valve's activation point.

I've found that the higher PSI the better with my sparkling water. So I had the single-output half of my dual reg up to like 50 PSI. No problems, no problems, it'd been like this for a few days. I open the fridge today and I hear gas whooshing out, and my high pressure gauge is pretty much on the needle. I figured I had a leak, so I sprayed it with soapy water, and sure enough, it was the release valve, which is also the check valve. I first thought the valve was broken, but when I lowered the PSI back to 35, it stopped.

So there ya have it. Guess I have to bring my tank in for a refill tomorrow. Lesson learned. That's what I get for kegging water and not beer, right?

Interesting. I've pumped mine up to 40 without a problem yet.

Anyone know where the clip came from?

Some release valves are set to blow off at as low as 45PSI on kegging systems, I'm sure that's what happened in your case.

Heh, thats why it's there...I stared at it for 5 minutes straight on some other forum a few weeks ago, then realized I should really just use it here.

Evan from what i have heard most keg (you are talking the release on your keg right?) check valves are supposed to be rated to 130psi, you may want to check into replacing yours. Just from what i have heard but i am probably wrong.

I thought he was talking about something on his regulator

o'Flan is right. This is the manual release/check valve on the regulator housing itself, not on the keg. Not all regulators have them (the one in my sanyo, that I got from craigslist, doesn't), but the ones I got from kegconnection do.

You have to be careful with some of these regulators. On mine, once you go over about 55 psi, the regulation stops and it goes wide open and pegs the gauge. May be what happened.

Nah, the gauge was still at 50-55psi or so. I think I just finally discovered the threshold for my check valve.
