I didnt realize when i started here in April that i can't carry any accrued days over to 2012.....at least I get to use them and I'll have off until 2012.
This day can not go fast enough ;)

My last day too. This place is so empty I seriously doubt I'll be here the whole day.

I don't mind working around the holidays to be honest...I get more work done with less interruption. Oh well, I plan to spend the rest of the year in my pajamas with a book and a drink

My last day was yesterday, although I'll probably poke my head in the 30th or 31st to begin some new cultures. But today I get to fly out of one of the nation's busiest airports on one of the busiest travel days. Joy!

Vegas for New Years is a blast.
We were there for it a few years ago and had a great time.

I'm one of those poor bastards with no vacation days left, although I have some flexibility when it comes to my schedule so I took the afternoon off today.
I've been out of vacation days since October.

See what happens when you unwisely squander your vacation days ?

Boss is letting us out at noon today.
I have about 4 PTO days saved up. I try to keep a handful in there at all time because we have to use vacation days if we get sick.

I am now on MY last day of 2011.
I have over 250 hours of vaca but my partner got her vaca request in before me and is in Brazil doing a rainforest tour.
Meanwhile, I'm stuck at work :(
Oh well, 8 more hours and I have 9 days off.
I have a ton of projects to do while I am off, starting with remodeling my wifes garage. Then I get to start cleaning out and organizing my shop.
Projects; they never really end.
Cheers,
MILF Man

So is it just one big bucket? 10 days total? It doesn't seem like they treat you very well there. I always thought working at a hospital would be awesome.
It's kind of weird for me. In theory I have three weeks vacation each year. However it is not tracked, so I usually take more each year. The downside is that I am never really off. If I want to take a day off, I need to arrange things so that I can be gone. There's no 'later boss, I'm out!' If I have responsibilities then I need to either find a colleague to manage them or take time out of my vacation day to handle them. If emergencies pop up then I get a call. I guess part of this is just the nature of my job; there are certain times of the year when vacation is just not possible. Usually this works out better for me because I end up taking quite a few half days and random days off when I can. But I've definitely had some unexpected working vacations. I can't imagine I'll make it through next week without getting a few calls.

It's the same a lot of places. My current job and my last job both have one big bucket of time off for vacation and sick. My guess is they're trying to keep people from calling out sick when they're not. I sure don't like using vacation up if I don't feel like coming in to work one day. It does suck when you are actually sick though.

Its so fucking stupid, but I'll try and explain. We have bank A and bank B. Bank A is PTO, Bank B is "sick time" but we aren't allowed to use Bank B unless one of the following:
1) We have no time left in Bank A and call in sick
2) We have already used 5 days out of Bank A and are still sick (at this point have to be on a doctor noted disability or in some sort of in-patient status).
I get 8 hours of PTO every two weeks added to my bank, so that's 26ish days of PTO a year, which isn't too bad and that goes up a couple days every year you work for the company.

So you get paid to not work almost 1/12 of the year? Sounds pretty damn fantastic to me!

I'm pretty fortunate. I get 3 weeks paid vacation, 6 sick days, 1 personal day, and 2 1/2 bereavement if needed.

Looking back on my teaching years, I guess I had it pretty good.... got a week and a half at Christmas, a week in Feb. & April and about 10-12 weeks in the summer.
Of course these weren't paid holidays and generally the pay sucked. We did have lots of family time when the kids were growing up.... and it was great preparation for retirement.
