In my book at least...

I went to a beer and wine tasting festival today. Great time! I have send out mad props to http://www.empirebrew.com/ Empire Brewing Co out of Syracuse. These guys were awesome. They has some great beers on tap, but my personal favorite of the festival was their IPA which was made with pure Amarillo hops. Absolutely delicious. Especially compared to some all the flipping fruit/wheat beers at the festival.

I give second to middle ages brewing co also out of Syracuse and their Wailing Wench. Absolutely delicious *almost barleywine, strong ale. Absolutely delicious, malty, hoppy, bitter, toasty, caramelly and so on and so forth.

Have you had a chance to sample an Ithaca brews? They recently won a NY state brew fest:

Speaking of NY brewers, Southern Tier has to be my number 1 so far...they have two new brews that I am looking forward to trying:

Creme Brulee Stout and Cherry Saison:

Souther Tier was there, there brews were good, but nothing stood out.

I've had ithaca's Cascazilla. AWESOME beer. A friend of mine knows the head brewer over at Ithaca and speaks very highly of him.

ST brews I have really liked:
Porter
Phin & Matts
Gemini
Unearthly
Hoppe
Choklat
Ubersun

Not so much:
IPA
Ja-va

Their 22oz Blackwater series brews seem to be a bit better than their 12oz standard offerings in general.

They had phin & matts out there, but I didn't try it after I tried their IPA.

Was the IPA as weak as it was in the case I had?

It had a decent bitterness, but I couldn't find much an aroma or any flavor at all.
