View Full Version : Flying Dog...
I have to say, I've yet to be disappointed in their brews. I'm into their K9 Cruiser Winter Ale, and it's damn tasty. In fact I believe I'll have another. :D

I have been a Flying Dog fan for a few years now. This last year my wife and I went to SXSW (HUGE Austin music festival...5 days of almost every unsigned artist in the US) and Flying Dog sponsored a day long concert. Beer was free, and they had the entire line up there. 12 hours of free IPA......that was a fun one.

I have their sampler packs a few times and really enjoyed everything I tried.

I've recently had their Double Dog double pale ale 80 IBU's and about 9% abv. What a monster, hoppy, sweet (malty), and tasty. Held the head almost to the bottom of the glass. (I drink fast though.) Great brew.
Last night I had their Snake Dog IPA. It's all right. I would like to see more hop aroma out of the bottle. It was an enjoyable brew none the less.

I was so excited when I found out my local Albertsons stocks Flying Dog beer. Not all their beers, unfortunately, but I've had the Pale Ale, Gonzo Imperial Porter, and I just finished up the last Snake Dog IPA. It was a good IPA, but I agree, it could have been hoppier. Not bad for grocery store beer though! I plan on getting their Road Dog porter. I really hope I can find a place nearby that has their other beers, such as the Hefe and the Double Dog.

I think they've changed their Snake Dog IPA recipe. They've upped the alcohol, (and consequently, I can't buy it in the grocery store anymore - friggin' bible belt) and it's not as hoppy anymore.
I've found their Pale ale to be exceptional - really hoppy for a Pale.
I am a big fan, but was really disappointed with their Trippel. So incredibly sweet. The Bier de Garde was really good though - incredibly toasty and dry. Can't wait for their Dogtoberfest to come back out as well.

I have a friend who used to work for the brewer at Flying Dog and run the bottling line. But he says he has no secrets to tell me. I say bullshit. I know you do.

Punching people in their throat is usually a good way to get secrets out.

I wasn't crazy about their Tire Bite Golden Ale, although I don't recall the reason.
Everything else I've had from them has been really good.

That's the one I really wanna try. I guess I can order it online now through their website, so I may do that.

I have a mixed pak sitting here waiting for me to drink... I never had any of those beers but your reviews make me want to give them a try.
I'm waiting to move in the new house before drinking those & all the other beers my folks got me from their trip down in the US. I don't know if I'll be able to wait that month and half...:o

I've had pretty bad luck with Flying Dog. Since they moved brewery operations to MD, they are all over the place here but the ones I have tried quite honestly sucked.
Looking at their decent ratings on BA and ratebeer, I must be getting bad bottles but on 4 occasions I've had 4 sad beers.

Which beers? I think the brewery move has changed their product - and not always for the better.

Didn't know they moved. Did the move all together or just open another operation?

I've always enjoyed flying dog. I hardly ever pick it up anymore, but I won't turn one down. I had one of their a while back that was really good though. Can't remember which it was.

Brewery operations moved from CO to MD.

I thought that they were keeping the Co brewery open as they supply the Colorado whiskey distillery as well.
I have had the Gonzo IP and the Douple Dog DIPA - I liked both of those. The selection of them out here is pretty touch and go.
Cool for taking the paddles to this thread Tank. :alc:
I've really like the Gonzo Imperial, along with their Porter and Pale Ale. And since there's a visit to the beer store this weekend, it may be time to try something else.
