Hey fellow homebrewers... I found this site by Googling "Beer & Sweat" and it seems many of you have heard of us, or even attended in the past. I wanted to make it official and let everyone know of this fun homebrew competition this August!
So, here's the details:
On August 21 my club will again host Beer & Sweat (so named as the time of year is quite hot). This event is unique as it's a KEG-ONLY competition. All entries must be in a keg... no bottles allowed!
for details hit www.beerandsweat and download the flyer or register your kegs or sign up to judge!
To give a brief synopsis... it's held at a hotel so no driving worries; competition judging starts about noon on Sat; at 5pm the doors to the hall open and we will have all participants kegs lined up with tap stands and placards with descriptions of the brewers name and beer type. All those who enter the competition will receive a wristband and commemorative tasting glass to sample ANY and ALL beers they wish; live band entertainment; raffle with awesome prizes all night; commemorative gifts to judges/stewards; prizes for category winners announced that evening; plus, hang out with fellow homebrewers!
It's a fantastic time... if you are in the Cincinnati/Northern KY area or would like to plan a trip around the competition there's plenty of fun things to do in the city. We have a world class zoo, art museum, Reds baseball, original Hofbrauhaus in US and lots more family fun.
oh yeah, we usually average 250 KEGS!!
and there is a prize of a new corny keg for the most kegs entered (hint, you gotta beat ~18-19 entries to even come close!)
It's also just about the ONLY competition where you can evaluate the beers in the same category as those you entered. Say you brewed an American Amber ... well you can go around an try all of the entries in this category! Not to mention the other 250~ish kegs!
Cheers and hope to see you and your kegs there!

Hey Andy, you probably don't remember me but we met last year at Beer & Sweat. I shall be there again this year, and will be entering an APA and an IIPA. Be afraid!

You will be up against mine in those categories! Probably the best you can hope for is a second or third, but that's nothing to be ashamed of really. I will also have some lagers in categories 1 & 2, so you might want to think twice before entering anything there.

I think we're going to volunteer to be steward's.
What kind of turnout does this have?
And, John, still any interest in the oval decals?

One of our club guys had an inside connection on the decals and we got them made up for real cheap. Thanks for your efforts though.
We typically have more than 200 entries for B & S. It's our biggest competition of the year by far. I'm planning on winning the Best of Show this year. :shark:Jesus:shark:

I will be there with but a single keg in tow (the big beers I did recently are being saved for winter, and the small beers are too low).

I'm in with four beers. Two lagers, an American IPA and an American Pale Ale. I have high hopes for the lagers, but I may get lucky with the ales too. We shall soon find out.

I had a great time, definitely will go next year. I volunteered as a steward, (first time) so it was interesting to see the judging process.

Since you asked nicely, and I wanted to brag anyway :D, attached are are a few photos:
Commemorative tasting glass that got plenty of use that night,
RCxc and I in front of our 4 taps (American Wheat, IIPA, Chocolate Stout, and APA). Ignore RC's accidental Zoolander expression. Apparently he looks like that a split second before he smiles,
The hall from up on the stage,
RCxc and I holding our loot. We won 1st place for our IIPA in the IIPA/Strong Ale category, and 3rd place for our Chocolate Stout.

Also, wanted to say that I met Copper_Stein and Big John and had a great time talking to them. And John, that pilsner was delicious...don't let anyone tell you different!

Hey Adam! It was great meeting and partying with you guys. Congrats on your wins and especially on the IIPA. That is a major achievement with such strong competition in the category. The event was a huge success this year. I think I am still feeling the effects three days later. I was able to eek out a honorable mention for my APA, but that was it. I did get some very valuable feedback from the judges though, so watch out next year.

Not a big deal though, because I did notice that you may have been drinking a beer or 2 that day. :D

duh, I knew that! I have several Andy's as friends and at my age I get confused easily. Yes, had a few samples Saturday and not much to eat. I was pretty well buzzed by the end of the evening. I switched over to water about 10 pm for just that reason. Fixed it! lol BTW, it was also great meeting and talking with WOP31 and his hot little girlfriend too.
:shark:Jesus:shark::rolleyes:

Maybe I should have introduced myself to people... I ended up meeting Andy and RCxc and probably others. I was hanging around with Copper_Stein a bunch of the evening.
Congrats on the medals, Andy, that IIPA was damn fine, that was my last HB of the night. And the choco stout was nice too. How did you get so much chocolate flavor in there? Cocoa powder?
I took a third with my Belgian IPA. Their only real complaint is that it didn't have enough Belgian character; which is why I liked it more then most Belgians.

It's okay Adam, I am Andy and everybody calls me Adam. Go figure. Really wish I could have made it this year. I was out of town all week and really wanted to spend time with the family. Looks like you guys had a great time. Congrats on the win! Looks like you two clowns are still making good beer. We have to get together again sometime soon.
