I decided to finally finish sealing my deck (I have 2200 SF of it). After a total of 14 hours of hard labor, it began to rain. We'll see how good this stuff is.

<tried getting a pic or 2 up but having a problem - try again later>

Yes. Many women have said I have the biggest deck in Savannah.:D

And, it's actually smaller now than it used to be. I cut a 1/4 of it off a few years back. It was just more deck than I, or anyone else, could handle.

I'll try to remember and share pictures of my big deck when I get home tonight.

Good God man. I pressure washed and stained (opaque) our 600 sq ft. deck recently with a brush and that was a load of work. Came out awesome though. For me instead of brewing it was:

Finish cutting up several Bull Pines. (Have about a cord of campfire wood now).
Use the wood from one to add another 4x8 raised bed.
Mow the lawn.
Continue ripping down an old trailer that was on the property, which included ripping apart the thing into manageable pieces and burning the wood scraps.
Repaired the 30' bridge, took all the old Oak planks off (8-10' long), cut into ~3' lengths, made a pile with the rotten ones and now I have a stable 30'x3' bridge. Hooray!
Weedwacked some areas of the garden in preparation for another row I am putting in soon.

Busy weekend.

Good Lord Zoe, I'm exhausted just reading that. :D

I had planned on some outside work Saturday and inside Sunday because of the forecast. Bastards can't even get that right. Turned in to an all inside weekend. Maybe I can powerwash the deck and patio later this week...

Yeah I didn't need to go to the gym this weekend :D.

Along the lines of what you say, I was going to do otherwise but I figured I'd strike while the iron is hot and not waste a sunny weekend.

Here are some pics of the deck.

The grassy area (about 700 sf) was deck at one point but I decided to take that out. I actually made a vertical wall out of all the deck materials to cut back a berm across the back of my property.

Yes. Men as well have admiration for my deck. The women like to jump on it, but men are envious.

That backyard is quintessentially Savannah. Love that sphagnum hanging.

What a cool space.

We host a small Oktoberfest party each year (as many as 130 or so folks have attended, though have cut back on invitations the past year or two to keep it to a more manageable 100). Last year we had 19 kegs/coolers of homebrew from our hb club members plus 3 cases of various commercial o'fests for partygoers. I was drinking the commercial stuff until April as I believe a total of 4 bottles were opened at the party.

Edit: forgot to mention that my 3 kegs were all drained by the end of the evening ;)

Nice O'fest. Ours has been growing over the past few years, this year I hope to invite more folks (last year was about 25). Thing is the people don't drink that much. I have found 3 kegs is more than enough for the uninitiated crowd of that size. Those 5% or so beers put most casual drinkers down rather quick! :D

Many people say they want my deck. I've had entire armies of people frolick across my deck, drink on my deck, party on my deck, just about anything you can imagine has been done to my deck. But alas, sorry, officially my deck is only for my wife and me.

And all this thread started because I had a bad day trying to protect my deck.

Totally seriously, I just went outside and check it out after several warm sunny days here and the deck is kind of sticky from the sealant I put down and then all that rain. I'm hoping that eventually it will be ok. The stuff is Flood CFM-UV protectant that costs a bundle (around $200 for the job) but lasts for 5 years. I sure hope I don't have to redo it.

Oh man. That doesn't sound good. How long after you put it down and the rain? It *should* eventually dry, hopefully you'll get some low humidity/high temp days. Try to keep everything (traffic, pollen, etc) off of it until it is completely dried otherwise it could meld into the finish (the dirt that is). If it is just getting sticky during high humidity days I'd write the company.

It started raining about 5 hrs after finishing up though it's supposed to sit for 48 hrs. We got a total of 2 inches over the next 3 days (wasn't supposed to rain at all when I decided to do it).

It seems to be all right. There is a sheen on the portion I sealed last week versus the top deck which was done several months back but maybe I've just forgotten what it looked like up there after finishing.

I proclaim that my big deck now has adequate protection.
